I am a big fan of hiking – you get to exercise, appreciate the nature, and enjoy gorgeous views, and you just feel so refreshed and accomplished afterwards.
Recently I went hiking at a trail called Crouching Lion in Oahu, Hawaii. It is located at Ka’a’wa, the northern side of the island.
Even though it only took us probably less than an hour to hike, I would say this was a pretty tough one. The trail is very steep all the way, and it’s either muddy or has a lot of loose gravel and dirt, which made it difficult to climb. I was crawling rather than walking most of the time.
The first half of this trail is mostly rainforest and you are under the shades. It actually felt nice, and you can see beautiful different shades of green while you are going up. After 40 minutes or so, you will reach to the top of the mountain. You can keep going from there too, but it gets very hot and dry from there.
The best thing about this hike is the gorgeous view. You are literally surrounded by breathtakingly beautiful scenery of Oahu once you reach to the top.
It’s a great hike if you want to see the view from the top without hiking for a long time, and it is a good workout.
My tips for this hike are to bring lots of water because you will need more than you think, and wear a good pair of shoes.
Crouching Lion is definitely one of my favorite hikes in Oahu so far.
